Where we are now |
The BBC Acoustic Lounge began as the brainchild of Hollis Greene and Angelica Vendetti, of the Boston-based band MACALLA. Hollis, who had worked for years as a music promoter in the UK, wanted to import a performance model never seen stateside. He wanted to recreate The Acoustic Lounge (Bath, UK), a live-music venue where local musicians could showcase their own music for an audience eager to listen.
Hollis and Angelica reached out to John Morelli (entertainment director) and Harry Gnong (owner) of the British Beer Company and pitched the idea. Harry, a huge supporter of live music, loved the concept and offered his flagship location in Plymouth, MA as the place to launch The Acoustic Lounge. |
What unfolded in that cozy British pub would become a benchmark for live music performance in the area. Bands, singer-songwriters and performers would come from all over the country to play their own music. Some of them were veteran musicians who'd had few opportunities to perform their origin songs in public. Some were new songwriters, eager to develop their craft and looking for honest feedback and connections. All of them were authentic, excited, and ready to play for an audience there to listen, not judge. Now in its second season, The Acoustic Lounge is expanding to include ever more BBC locations. Monday night is definitely the "new Friday" at The British Beer Company, and New England is ready for another year of fresh, original music!
